Secret Code: The Clocks March on Forever
Name: Dr. Riley Raphael Donovan
Date of Birth: July 7th, 1011 a.d.
Place of Birth: Dublin. Ireland
Age: 936 (36)
Profession: Co-Owner and Operator of ‘The Book and Prayer' in Boston. He is also an Aesthete, Sportsman, “Doctor” and a Medium who works well with cards and physical magic.
Appearance:
Personality: Riley is kind of a…how to put this…a smart ass…he doesn’t take bull from anyone and will always stand up for what he believes in. He isn’t afraid to tell you what he thinks and will smack you around if he knows it will do you good and more often than not it does…Despite his rough outer shell, Riley is a kind soul and is always more concerned about everyone around him, especially his lover, Myles Hendrick.
Blood Type: O-
~Race/Special: Immortal. The Donovan family was cursed long ago during the Viking Raids of Ireland to live long and violent lives. Riley’s father managed to hide his family away however in the ‘new world’ of America and the family group has been living ever since, doing good and beautiful things with their ‘curse’. They have, only within recent years, welcomed new children into the family who share their curse as well. And a few of the original family members have begun to form their own families. These ‘grandchildren’ have yet to show the signs of Immortality.
~History:
Riley, along with the rest of his ‘original’ family remembers very little before they were cursed by a Viking Mystic, hell-bent on destroying them. What they do remember is that they were rather important in Dublin town and that they influenced many different layers of people living and functioning there at the time. Riley recalls that he is Till’s twin brother and the first born in the family. He also knows that he was married to a woman but he cannot remember her face or her name. All he seems to recall is that she had the voice of an angel. The only one of them who knows everything from their past is his father Aaron, but he has kept it all tight lipped and hidden. Perhaps out of fear or to protect his family. Riley doesn’t push his father for answers...
Their final years in Ireland after the curse were filled with violence and hatred, not only toward the Vikings but toward the rest of the Irish population. It was rather obvious that the Donovan’s weren’t like most people, so they were often shunned and run out of town like beasts. During attacks on the family, they all discovered that not only did they live longer than most people, but nothing that was done to them could kill them, including the most horrible of deaths. Riley himself used this to his advantage, especially in the quest for places to stay and money to live off of. They all learned quickly how to fool those who knew nothing about them into thinking that they were as human as they were and they found that they could manipulate situations into their favor. But the road was long and hard, no matter where they went…
When tales of the ‘new world’ began to filter through the Irish countryside, Aaron decided that, in order to fully hide from the shame of their curse, they needed to get on a ship and sail away to this haven. He acquired ship tickets and packed his family and what little they had up to travel across the sea. They arrived in New York in 1689, a few hundred years before the hate and frustration for Irish immigration began. They traveled to Boston and planned to open a gathering place for all people. They founded, ‘The Book and Prayer’ in 1690 as a sort of church. The book is the bible, placed on a desk in the back of the place for any wandering soul to read from, the prayer for all who entered the doors. The place didn’t become a true Tavern until the 1800’s when church was being replaced by the need for alcohol and gambling, as everyday people struggled to survive. The book and prayers were never forgotten however and still hold their place within the walls and on the lips of the family who founded it.
In order to keep attention away from their Immortality, the family has been able to figure out ways to pass off their own mortality. They rotate ‘owners’ and often change their names. Sometimes they stage each other’s deaths and will often, with the help of magic, change their appearances to trick those who visit often and drink less with age. Recently however, more and more people have begun to notice just how different the Donovan’s are…but this time, Dr. R.R. Donovan is refusing to back down…

"What can I help you with, sir?" Riley asked, blinking eyes against the sudden glare of sunlight through the window. Myles was standing in front of them, shirtless and grinning. Everything about him was on fire, and as Riley's senses came awake, he could smell his desire like the smoke from an expensive cigarette. "I want you to get up..." Myles’s voice was rough, like he had been screaming for hours. Sitting up, Riley kicked his legs out from underneath the blankets and stood up on the cold wood floor. "I'm up now...what else can I do for you?" he kept his voice low, even and flat. He let himself be aware of everything, the sounds outside his room in the hallway, beyond the windows on the far side. Myles's heart beat and breathing. All of it.
